Press Information

This section of the site has been designed to provide common information required by members of the press. We are currently working on getting some print-quality images together, but in the mean time here is some company background.

The Studio

Blink Twice was founded in the summer of 2003 by Robin (creator, editor, writer, letterer) and Lawrence (creator, pencils, inks, colours) Etherington in a hopeless attempt to organise the multitude of projects whizzing around their feverish minds. Having written the first four issues of a six-issue volume entitled 'Dust to Dust' and done the whole tout-our-art-and-words-to-publishers-who-weren't-all-that-interested (Lawrence didn't draw his characters with big enough boobies) the brothers decided a total change of direction was in order - colour format to black and white; religious thriller to animal comedy; portfolio touting to self-publishing - and launched the first Issue of their debut bi-monthly title 'Malcolm Magic' in January '04.

The Creators

While Lawrence is a trained, qualified fine artist, with a history of successful exhibitions under his belt and an impressive understanding of all mediums and materials from paper to Mac, pen to brush, wood to metal to glass...Robin is an unqualified hack. But BOY has he read a lot of comics! This combination of genuine talent and unbridled enthusiasm is what keeps Blink Twice exciting and makes Malcolm Magic one of the most unique and amusing titles to emerge from the UK's Independent scene in the last few years. Since jumping on board Mark Clements has contributed a phenomenal dollop of much needed technical genius to allow the company to expand into the digital realm.

Malcolm Magic

The inspiration for the little punch-drunk bunny and his slapstick fur-filled adventures came from an unlikely source. In October 2003 Lawrence had been working with a greetings card company on a series of 1940's styled nose-art graphics - the sort of Memphis Belle imagery that festooned the bombers of WWII. Most of the shots were of 40's gals, all provocative lips and hips, but thrown into the selection randomly was a picture of a cartoon bunny in a blue and black striped jumped with a pop gun and flying goggles. Robin picked up the sketch, named him Malcolm and the whole madness just flowed onto the page. Sometimes life is just like that.

Future Projects

Here at Blink Twice we are dedicated to nurturing and developing only those projects that excite us from our heads to our toes. As such we have some grand plans for the future.
Aside from the ongoing Malcolm comic series we will be launching our first computer game entitled ‘Malcolm Magic and the Very Cherry Sherry’, early in 2005.
The first comic spin off from the world of Malcolm will be the one-shot special Tusk, again set in the town of Fuzzton but featuring a brand new cast of ridiculous characters who shelter from the realities of life in a bar called The Last Mammal Standing. Think ‘Cheers’ but with funny animals.
Our other major project in development is a bit of a secret…but if you’ve met us at any of the recent conventions you’ll probably have heard us utter the immortal word…MOON!
